Meeting with the tour guide in the prearranged meeting-point, which can be changed according to guests requirements:

This tour will show You the Galleria dellAccademia with some of Michelangelos most important sculptures and lots of marvellous paintings from the Florentine school. Then the famous Cathedral with its worldwide known Dome and the Piazza della Signoria, which is the heart of the political life of Florence since the 12th century.

The Cathedral

The red-tiled, 45m wide and 104m high dome by Filippo Brunelleschi is the largest in the world and the symbol of Florence. To arrive on the top You have to climb 463 steps. The Cathedral was built in 1436 completed but in the following years it has been renewed many times until getting his neo-gothic style hundreds of years later. The dome is impressive for its pink marbles and the patterns that show the Baptistery and the Campanile. Inside the Cathedral You can find frescoes by P. Uccello from the 14th century.

Piazza della Signoria

The Piazza della Signoria, is the most famous square and the political heart of Florence. A beautiful example of the medieval architecture is the Palazzo Vecchio on the east side of the square and the famous Loggia della Signoria in the south. The Fountain of Neptune at the corner of the Palazzo Vecchio, built in 1575 by the architect Ammannati, was criticized by many, also by Michelangelo; the habitants mocked it as Big Whitey. A disk in the ground near the fountain marks the place where Savanarola (The famous Dominican monk) has been executed. His efforts to liberate the church of the corruption not only strengthened his political power but also led to his excommunication from the church. Condemned as heretic, in 1498 he got burned. The statue of David You can admire is a copy of Michelangelos original statue, which was moved to the Accademia Gallery.

Accademia Gallery (Visit of 1 hour and 30 minutes)

This Gallery, which was founded in 1784, houses some of Michelangelos most important sculptures and paintings of the Florentine school from the XIII-XVI century. The gallery evolved from the Accademia del Disegno, which was founded in 1563 by Cosimo I de' Medici, and subsequently from the Accademia di Belle Arti. A big part of the paintings, which have been created by the students, are still there to admire. The museum was established definitively in 1873, when Michelangelo's David was relocated in the gallery. Today, the Galleria dell'Accademia is the main museum of Michelangelo, because great artworks by other artists in the 20th Century have been relocated in the Uffizi and other museums.
