An English-speaking guide, the driver and his air-conditioned Mercedes vehicle (or similar make) will meet You dockside at the pre-arranged time You decide to start this tour. Then, you will be transferred to Salerno to visit the Cathedral of St Matthew.
Then, You'll continue to Paestum. There, with Your private English-speaking guide, You�ll visit the Greek temples - entrance fee is included- . He will bring to life the remains of Paestum that include many insights into how life was in Greek Times. Your tour will include: visit of the three Greek temples, the Forum, the amphitheatre, the Via Sacra (the Sacred Way).
The well-preserved Greek temples of Paestum are the best of their kind in the world, rivalling those of Sicily and Athens. These Doric temples were built without using cement or mortar.
After 1 hour of free time for lunch, You'll visit with Your guide the Paestum Museum - entrance fee is included- with prehistoric material, painted pottery and fine metopes from the Temple of Hera on the Sele river, north of Paestum, and the archaic Treasury, including Greek statues and pictures. Also to be seen are grave-paintings found in the nearby necropolis, as well as Greek statues and paintings.
The highlight of a visit to this museum is the series of mural paintings which decorated Poseidonia's tombs. They date back to the fifth century BC and include the world famous Tomb of the Diver, one of the few surviving examples of Greek painting in the world. Nearly 3000 years later these paintings are still magnificient.
