The Roman ruins of Pompeii  are famous worldwide because that city has been preserved intact since the morning in 79 AD when Mt Vesuvius erupted.
Pompeii  owes its exceptional state of preservation to the manner in which it was buried. Tons of ash, pumice and lapilli stones  have covered under a layer of over 6 metres preserving, at the same time, from most of the ravages of time.
The same pyroclastic materials by hardening  around bodies invested, have retained the imprint, allowing archaeologists to return them in the attitudes taken as a result of short but atrocious agony.
The town one can visit is actually the result of another , older, founded in the early sixth century B.C. by the Osci people, a local population. Pompeii has left many traces of itself.
Indeed, it initially was  inhabited only in the area where there is  currently the Forum .
Many buildings currently visited were made after  the war that opposed Pompeii  to Rome.
Over the years in the colony a lot of  different buildings were made such as  the Baths of the Forum and the Amphitheatre.
The present appearance however was achieved in the first imperial age, an era which starts from the Palestra Grande and public buildings on the east side of the Forum.
The latter, surrounded by a portico and dominated from the temple of Jupiter, is the heart of the city, its political, administrative and commercial centre. The Forum is away from the theatre district, the heart of the cultural and religious activities of Pompeii, built in the second century BC.  "Playful" activities were placed in large part on the far outskirts where one can visit the Amphitheatre and the Palestra Grande. Of great interest the public baths: those of "Forum" and the "Stabiane",  with their frigidarium, tepidarium and caldarium.
The guided visit in Pompeii will last two hours.

After Pompeii, transfer to the lovely town of Sorrento. Access point to the mythical land of the sirens, Sorrento is a lively resort. Located between some cliffs from which the view extends from the Gulf of Naples to Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento will amaze you for its history and panoramas.
It is rich in history and legend, and was praised by ancient and modern poets and writers ( from  Stazius to Byron). In the nineteenth century Sorrento became a renowned resort for writers and artists , dukes and princes, kings and emperors.
Now Sorrento is visited by a large flow of international tourism for its pleasant climate and its scenic beauty. The coast of Sorrento is divided between the area of Marina Piccola , with the ferry landing, and the beach of Marina Grande, occupied by bathing establishments.
Worth visiting is the Cathedral, founded in the eleventh century and rebuilt in the fifteenth century in Renaissance style with a bell tower of Byzantine influence .
Moreover the town gave birth to Torquato Tasso, an Italian writer famous in the sixteenth century.
